Perhaps the most complex feature on Twitter for a new user to understand is the infamous HashTag and how it can be applied to a topic with its respective symbol (“#”) at the start of the tag to identify it. Twitter hashtags like #followfridays spread information on the twittersphere  while also helping to organize and categorize flow of information by bringing communities and interest groups together.

Hashtags were originally developed as a way to group subjects on Twitter with out having to change the basic service. The symbol # is a convention permanently borrowed primarily from the old school IRC channels as followed later by Jaiku’s channel (a social networking, micro-blogging and life-streaming service comparable to Twitter).

In a way it would be safe to say; to understand Twitter hashtags and there implementation is to grasp Twitters full power and potential to convey the message to its proper channel. To put it simply, a hashtag is a way to search for tweets that share a common topic.

Let me give you an example; say you are a huge Lost fan, (like most of us here at Derooted Agency) you can search Twitter #LOST, you’ll get a real-time list of tweets related to one of the greatest TV shows ever made. Lost.

The beauty of a hashtag is say if someone wrote something about Lost which did not actually have the word “Lost” in the tweet, the message would still get categorized because of the hashtag.

e.g. I just sent the following tweet on twitter: “Who do you think is hotter?? Kate or Clair? #Lost”

lost tweet #hashtags. can you smoke em?

Everyone in the world who follows #Lost on twitter will receive my question and if they choose they will answer me directly on my twitter @amirebrahimnia

I may choose to add more than 1 hashtag to my message given I keep the total message to no more than 140 characters.  “Who do you think is hotter?? Kate or Clair? #Lost #ABC #TV #Show”

In reality hash tags allow you to create communities of people interested in the same topic by making it easier for them to find and share info related to it.

When you apply a simple hashtag to your tweet, in a way you are the closest as you may ever be to your audience given they are any more than 4 degrees of separation. Think about it for a second. If your message is one worthy of sending to someone in pure intention, what would that do for your objective?

I would be grateful to hear you.

Do you tweet your product? How do you use hashtags? What are some of your favorite hashtags and how do you see yourself benefiting from a Twitter hashtag?

Have you ever notice how easy it is to find what you are looking for on the derooted website?  It is no coincidence that our website was designed with easy navigation and your best intentions in mind.  What makes cruising our site so simple is that it is in fact a mere single page website — everything is accessible right there on the main page.

Design is a form of communication; if the design is too complicated the message becomes lost.  It has become trendy to minimalize modern websites into single page designs.  It is interesting to see how designers can model their single pages to be interactive, appealing and easy to use.

If you are looking to create a site, single page sites are the way to go.  They are great to build and showcase work easily with feature JQuery and a little javascript .  Below are some sites I found to be very inspirational.  Enjoy!

Spectacular car chases, an intense hostage crisis, wild animals rampaging through the city.

logoramasq Logorama Short AnimationLogorama brings to life a world built out of familiar logos. Hundreds of logos and mascots are used, and they include examples from software companies, shopping centers, restaurants, sports teams, movies, and any number of other products, agencies, and corporations. It’s a lot of fun watching all of these familiar logos used so creatively. They fill the screen and zip by without calling attention to themselves. Watching Logorama is like a game of “How Many Logos Can You Name?” To fully appreciate this animated short, one needs to freeze-frame each part and check out all the details.

Imagine how much work it must have been filling this virtual city with all of those brands. Each logo fits in in a logical way. Boxy logos, for example, are often used as buildings, while pedestrians are made from the AOL Instant Messenger guy or the Bic pen man. Cops are Michelin men. The zoo includes the MGM lion and the Linux penguin. Thousands of logos are used so cleverly that it nearly boggles the mind. As new logos reveal themselves, the viewer is awestruck. “Aw, man! Are you freakin’ kidding!?!”

Watch This brilliant Oscar nominated Short ‘Logorama’ and simply get blown away rolling on the floor, while thinking to yourself; “Did McDonald’s REALLY approve this?”

So Im finally back at the studio after an involuntary long weekend of illness. I’m glad to say I’m feeling much better this Wednesday morning.

snapsq snappity snap snaps.Photography has always fascinated me. I’m that person with a hundred photos of every event, trip etc and while I don’t consider myself a photographer by any means, I nevertheless can appreciate some good photography (or at least what I find interesting). There’s a lot of great photographers that collaborate with derooted, and Simon’s imminent involvement with CONTACT has loosely inspired my post today. Its more inspired by the concept of non-traditional photography and showcasing it using new mediums. Stop Motion animation is certainly nothing new. However, what was once rather limited for the guy/girl at home has become far more accessible. All u need is a decent camera, a huge SD card, a great idea, some degree of computer skills are a plus but not necessary, and in most cases A LOT OF TIME ON YOUR HANDS! Check out some personal favorites…

Probably my favorite stop motion video ever! The hours and planning that must have went into this are mind boggling..

PES rules..nuff said

Shot using a technology called “tilt-shift” , creates the illusion that everything is in miniature. Pretty dope!

T shirt goodness…

Good friends Ashley and JJ’s afternoon of stop motion fun…
